Proctored Exams

What is a proctored exam?

A proctored exam is a test that is supervised by an approved, neutral person (a proctor) who ensures the identity of the test taker and the integrity of the test-taking environment. This process helps to prevent cheating by observing the candidate during the exam duration. The proctor is also responsible for ensuring that the examination rules are strictly followed.

We provide Simpro Certification exams worldwide via our examination delivery partner, Pearson VUE.

Online proctoring provides a flexible test environment where you can take an exam from any private location, like your home or workplace. You'll use your own computer for the test, and interact with a proctor who remotely supervises your exam through a screen-sharing application and your webcam.

Why are proctor exams important for professional certifications?

Administering professional certification exams through proctoring services like Pearson has become a common and essential practice. The main purpose of this is to establish a secure examination environment and deter dishonest practices by implementing controlled test conditions. For Simpro, maintaining the integrity of our exams is vital to ensure that those we certify indeed have the competencies and understanding we aim to assess. This, in turn, is crucial to upholding the value of our certifications.

What steps will I go through when taking a Simpro Certification exam?

1
Before scheduling your exam
  • Review all system requirements, FAQs, rules, policies, and procedures (OnVUE page).
  • Run the system test in your chosen testing location, using the same computer and network you will use for the exam.
  • If needed, consult the OnVUE technical requirements for troubleshooting tips.
  • Verify that you can meet all computer, connection, and workspace requirements before scheduling an OnVUE exam.
2
To schedule an exam
  • Access the OnVUE page and click Sign in (or click Create an account first, if needed).
  • Complete the scheduling process as directed.

Note: It is your responsibility to run a system test and verify that OnVUE works on your computer and network.

On exam day
  • Be ready to check in 30 minutes before the appointment time.
  • Find a well-lit, clutter-free space. To deliver your exam securely, we need to ensure that the testing area is clear of potential security vulnerabilities.
  • Clear the exam workspace of non-essential items, move all books and writing implements out of arm’s reach, unplug additional monitors and computers, and clear the walls of writing (e.g., on whiteboards).
  • Collect the required ID and phone (which will be set out of arm’s reach after check-in).
  • Access the OnVUE page and run the system test again immediately before checking in.

To start the exam

Take one of these actions to start checking in. (Check-in is available 30 minutes before to 15 minutes after the appointment time.)

  • Access the OnVUE page, sign in, select the exam, and click Begin Exam.
  • Click the Check in to start exam link on your email confirmation, rescheduling, or reminder message from Pearson VUE.

Follow the on-screen instructions and click Download to download and run OnVUE.

Check in as directed:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to start the self-check-in process.
  • Test the mic, webcam, audio, and network connections.
  • Capture the required headshot and ID photos (front and back).
  • Capture the required photos showing a clear workspace and surroundings.
  • Shut down other non-essential applications running on the computer before completing check-in.
  • Wait for a proctor to contact you by computer or phone to finish the check-in and start the exam for you.
  • Move any phone used during check-in out of arm’s reach.

If you pass all check-in steps, you can start the exam. Otherwise, a proctor helps you complete all failed check-in steps first.
